Author Profile
Russ Hanbey writes from personal experiences linked to observations from the world around him. His history of writing includes a number of publications that relate to his work as a classroom teacher. The deeper reservoir of writings reflects his relationship to the natural world, including a body of work in environmental education and environmental restoration. Recently, feature articles in regional print media have been the focus of his handiwork and are examples of his current pursuit of creative non-fiction writings.
Russ has spent many summers working outside of the classroom for the U.S. Forest Service as a field worker focusing on wilderness, fire and recreation in the North Central Cascades Mountains. In addition, employment with the Student Conservation Association has lead to outdoor work in Denali, Yellowstone, North Cascades National Parks and numerous other sites throughout the west. This has included work as a back country crew leader, workshop instructor and program director.
